Consul General of Switzerland Julius Anderegg has appreciated the economic reforms, and liberalisation and consistency of policies in Pakistan resulting in significant growth of industries and trade over last couple of years.
He, in a meeting with the members of Karachi Chambers of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) here on Tuesday in the Chamber, said he was also impressed by the high caliber of Pakistani businessmen, especially, from the textile and pharmaceutical sectors.
He noted that the policy-makers here had done good job. Macro-economic factors had greatly improved and the Central Bank of Pakistan was playing its due role, he added. On pointation by a member of KCCI, the Swiss Envoy agreed that more initiatives were required at the government and private sector levels from both sides to tap the existing potential of trade and investment in Pakistan and Switzerland. "Yes, we should enter more joint ventures in diverse fields for this purpose," he said.
KCCI's Diplomatic Affairs Sub-Committee Chairman Mian Abrar Ahmad said the trade between the two countries was very nominal at dollars 63 million in 2004-05 whereas Pakistan had dollars 230 million with small country of Bangladesh over the same period.
Mian Abrar said it was a good omen that the economic ties between the two countries had flourished. Today, prominent Swiss firms' products had found room at almost every household of Pakistan.
More than 1,000 Swiss companies were working in Pakistan after having invested to the tune of dollars 85 to 100 million in various industrial units. There were also vivid chances of expansion in exports of various Pakistani products to Switzerland, he said.
