The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) has clarified a news item appearing in Business Recorder of March 1, 2006, saying that the federal government had allowed an amount of Rs 505 million for safety upgrade and renovation of Kanupp through a temporary withdrawal of money from the decommissioning funds.
The amount used for this purpose would be returned to the 'Kanupp Decommissioning Fund' from the income generated by the plant on its operation on higher power generation capacity.
The press release said that no IAEA guidelines had been violated as the federal government had also provided its sovereign guarantee to undertake the decommissioning as and when required.-PR
