Gunmen killed politician Nasrullah Khan Kakar in Balochistan on Wednesday, hours after suspected tribal militants blew up a gas pipeline in the region, officials said.
Kakar, provincial head of Pakistan Workers Party (PWP), which backs the government in its campaign against Baloch militants, was gunned down with a supporter outside his house in Bostan village, about 30 kilometres north of Quetta. Shops in Quetta shut as people mourned Kakar, though his party did not have a significant following.
Gas pipeline blown up: Earlier in the day, suspected tribal militants blew up a pipeline that feeds gas to Balochistan, but officials of Sui Southern Gas Company Limited, said supplies to consumers remained unaffected.
Nobody has claimed responsibility for the attack.
