"The All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS), commenting on the order dated February 27, 2006 of the ITNE Chairman, has clarified that the constitutional question as to the validity and vires of Newspaper Employees Acts, 1973 and decisions given by successive wage boards are under comprehensive challenge through constitutional petitions pending in the Sindh High Court (SHC) and the Lahore High Court (LHC).
The APNS member publications have already requested the ITNE Chairman to defer proceedings pending before it for two months to enable the APNS to proceed adjudication of the constitutional petitions.
The APNS shall shortly move applications to the Sindh High Court for early disposal of the matter, if possible, within March 2006. The prayer for suspension of proceedings pending before the ITNE shall also be pressed to avoid any conflict of decision in the interest of propriety.
"In so far, as applications made by employees of the Jang Group are concerned, it is noteworthy that the organisation has not withheld salaries and other fringe benefits which are being paid to the employees regularly, and it is only the disputed raise given by the 7th Wage Board which is being questioned," stated a spokesman for the APNS.-PR
