The Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) should adopt a joint strategy against the publication of blasphemous caricatures in the Western media and make sure the stop of such mischief in future, said former Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Admiral Iftikhar Ahmed Sarohey (Retd) here on Wednesday.
"Islamic countries might depend on their own resources and boycott the products of the countries involved in the profane", Sarohey said while addressing the "Shura-e-Hamdard" (Hamdard Thinkers Forum).
He stressed active functioning of the OIC and unity among the Ummah as need of the hour. He demanded the world community to expel out the blasphemous material from the books. "If prudence was not shown on international level it would lead towards the clash of civilisation," he added.
Sarohey was of the view that the persons involved in blasphemy should be brought to task and present in the court of law and awarded heavy punishment on them. "If these people were not brought to task it would encourage other unscrupulous people and cause chaos," he added.
Sarohey said the Islamic countries had deposited dollars 10 trillion in Western and American banks and if Muslims would draw that amount from those banks and use it properly for prosperity of their people, it would completely eradicate poverty from the Muslim World.
Former Naval Chief said the West had adopted double standards towards Islam, "Writers in the West can not inscribe even a word about the Jews but on the other hand they humiliate Muslims sacred personalities.
Dr Khalid Alvi, Dr S M Zaman, Professor Iqbal Bakht, Qazi Arif, Mansoor Aqil, Professor Niaz Naeem Qureshi and Sanaullah Akhtar also spoke on the occasion.
