Japanese internet sensation and singer, Piko-Taro just set a Guinness World Record for his viral tune ‘Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen’, the shortest song to ever be charted on the US billboard hot 100.
On the 29th of October, the 45 second catchy tune stood at no. 77 on the billboard charts. The now, 53-year-old singer received the award at a press conference yesterday in Tokyo.
The last case which could be deemed akin, to the ‘PPAP’ song was in 1964, by an American folk band called ‘The Womenfolk’ for their song ‘Little Boxes’, which too was a meager minute and two seconds.
This makes Piko-Taro, the first ever Japanese artist to be featured on the Billboard charts since 1990; he also revealed that he has signed on with major record labels like Sony, CNR Music and Time Records – to name a few – to distribute his music globally.
