Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry on Thursday directed Punjab government to conclude kite flying during the celebrations of Jashan-e-Baharan till March 15. He further directed that with effect from March 16 there would be a complete ban on kite flying as it was imposed on October 25, 2005.
The Chief Justice passed these orders while disposing of an application submitted by the Advocate General Punjab, Aftab lqbal Chaudhry, on behalf of the government of Punjab. The hearing of the application was held at the chamber of the Chief Justice. According to a press release issued, the Chief Justice also directed Punjab Inspector General of Police and other concerned authorities to send reports according to the orders passed by the Apex Court earlier.
The Advocate General informed the Chief Justice that Government of Pakistan earns a considerable amount of foreign exchange during the period of Jashan-e-Baharan as number of guests arrive from outside the country. Moreover, the AG said, it would not be possible for the kite flying industry to clear its stock during these days, therefore he stated that permission be accorded to Government of Punjab to extend the period flying activities up to March 15, 2006, which was allowed.
The Chief Justice also directed the Punjab Advocate General to take all steps for the implementation of orders passed earlier by the Apex Court regarding kite flying and the persons responsible for the violation be proceeded against accordingly.
