Pakistan on Thursday, commenting on the statement of US Under-secretary of State Nicholas Burns, said that his remarks do not have a bearing on Pakistan's right to have international co-operation in civilian nuclear power generation under IAEA safeguards.
Spokesperson of Foreign Office while commenting on the statement of Nicholas Burns in New Delhi that the US would not be concluding a nuclear co-operation agreement with Pakistan, said.
"We have repeatedly stated that with sustained growth in our economy, our energy requirements are growing."
Tasnim Aslam said as a fossil fuel deficit country, Pakistan has an expectation for international co-operation under safeguards for nuclear power generation.
As regards the question of nuclear non-proliferation, the spokesperson said Pakistan's commitment is iron clad and added "we have taken all necessary measures in this regard."
