Vice-Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Major General Muhammad Siddique has disclosed that NAB has taken necessary steps to probe sugar scam and oil pricing mechanism which are important for the public welfare and in this regard meetings were held with some ministers and government officials.
This was stated by him while addressing the concluding session of a two-day workshop on Youth in Governance, jointly organised by Transparency International Pakistan, Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, National Accountability Bureau and Swiss Agency for Development and Co-operation, at the Lahore University of Management and Sciences here on Thursday.
'We are approaching different departments to identify problems and deficiencies relating to the sugar scam and oil pricing mechanism and hopefully NAB would be able to dig-out something positive. However, NAB needs sometime to reach on definite conclusion,' he maintained.
Briefing the participants about steps taken by NAB to ensure transparency in the country, he said it has recruited 136 officers of Grade 16-18 out of 6,000 candidates purely on merit through Federal Public Service Commission.
The governance is meant for making decisions and their implementation through eight different phases including, accountability, transparency, participation, orientation and effectiveness etc, which are ideal but hardly exist in the world. He said the workshop would help take steps for sustainable human development. Though, accountability and transparency mainly come under purview of the government, yet civil society has also important role to play in this regard, he added.
He also said that good governance in Pakistan is better than few years before. However, there is room for further improvement and we all need to play our part whether it is government or civil society or youth of Pakistan, he added.
