Punjab University Vice-chancellor Arshad Mahmood here on Thursday chaired a meeting of Semester Implementation Committee to review semester rules of BA/BSc (Hons) MA/MSc (Hons) and MA/MSc.
Speaking on the occasion, Arshad called for converting the syllabus into curriculum to improve the intellectual development of students, as curriculum will lay down the percentage of lectures, tutorials, seminars, workshops, assignments and tests, etc, in an academic year to develop cognitive domain of students to ensure understanding, reasoning, originality and creativity.
Referring to the ingredients of the curriculum, he said, it (curriculum) offers planned learning opportunities, learning experiences and learning outcomes. "Curriculum has four elements - first aims and objectives of the programme/course, second syllabus, third pedagogy or methods of transmission to include group discussions, library day, lab/practical work, field work/industry visit, project, mid-term test, send-up test, research and internship etc, and fourthly assessment and evaluation strategies to determine learning outcomes," he said.
Dean Faculty of Economics & Management Sciences Professor Dr Zafar Iqbal Jadoon, Dean Faculty of Life Sciences Professor Dr Shahida Hussnain, Director, BA/BSc (Hons) programmes Professor Dr M. Amin Athar, Chairman Department of Sociology Professor Dr Muhammad Hafeez, Chairman Department of Physics Professor Dr Khadim Hussain, Professor Dr Nisar Ahmad, Controller Examination Professor Dr Taqi Zahid Butt, Treasurer Abdul Sattar Jajja, Resident Auditor Sheikh Muhammad Ali and Registrar Professor Dr Muhammad Naeem Khan attended the meeting.
