The establishment of Margalla Dry port has greatly boosted the trade activities here fulfilling the longstanding demand of the business community, said Abdul Rauf, president, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) on Thursday.
Addressing a meeting of the Dry port sub-committee in Chamber House, he said that launching of dry port had further facilitated the exporters and importers of Rawalpindi, Jehlum, Islamabad, Kashmir, Chakwal, Attock, Northern Areas, and NWFP, says a press release.
He stated that I-9 Industrial sector was set up in already established Margalla Railway Station and the railway department had constructed boundary around it. As no public train passes the Islamabad Railway Station due to which cargo express service faces no problems.
He told the committee that railway had started goods train service from Karachi to Lahore, and hoped that Karachi to Islamabad goods service would also be started in the near future.
The ICCI chief said the CBR had introduced Self-Assessment System for on-line customs duty payment on Margalla Dry port.
He urged the business community to take advantage of the Dry port to expand trade contributing to the better economic growth of Pakistan.-PR
