A number of non-governmental organisations will hold a torch-bearing rally here on Wednesday (March 8) to demand repeal of all discriminatory laws against women, including Hudood Ordinance.
The rally would be arranged under the aegis of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of NGOs and will start from China Chowk and culminate at Parliament House in the evening.
To celebrate the International Women Day, the JAC will also organise a seminar on "Repeal of Hudood Ordinance-Emerging Realities and Action Required" on March 7.
The seminar would bring together organisations, academics, political and social personalities and other advocacy partners to work for protection and promotion of women's rights.
The event is expected to be attended by MNA Sherry Rehman, Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPP-P), MNA Kunwar Khalid Younus from Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Arifa Syeda Zehra, Chairperson National Council for Social Welfare (NCSW), former Justice Nasira Javed Iqbal besides other prominent personalities.
The objective of the one-day seminar is to highlight the grave sufferings caused by unjust and discriminatory laws against women in Pakistan, and particularly to contribute to the ongoing campaign for repeal of the Hudood Ordinance.
