During the process of hearing of a complaint in Mohtasib Secretariat, the Medical Superintendent, Lady Willington Hospital, has paid the withheld arrears of the stipend to as many as 188 nursing students.
According to the details, a citizen, Sufi Muhammad Shah complained to the Mohtasib Secretariat that his two daughters, after getting training for one-year in Lady Willington Hospital, Lahore, appeared in the Nurses Training Course Examination in the year 2002-03. All the hospitals have been paying stipend to the trainee nurses at a monthly rate of Rs 3,750 since June 2001, but MS Lady Willington Hospital, Lahore has paid the stipend at a monthly rate of Rs 2,715 only, to his daughters.
The complainant verbally as well as in writing had requested the officers of health department to clear the amount, but they had put off the matter on one pretext or the other for the last about two years, besides misbehaving with him and threatening him with dire consequences.
The complainant requested Mohtasib Secretariat that the MS Lady Willington Hospital, Lahore, Director Finance, Mayo Hospital, Lahore and Principal, King Edward Medical College, Lahore be directed to make payment of the remaining amount of stipend to his daughters.
In her departmental response, Medical Superintendent, Lady Willington Hospital, Lahore, reported to the Mohtasib Secretariat that stipend at the enhanced rate could not be paid as funds for that purpose were not provided for which she has been making efforts to get released the same from the quarters concerned. However, the stipend had been paid to the complainant's daughters from the existing resources.
In his rejoinder, the complainant stated that the MS has paid arrears of stipend to his daughters, but there were other staff nurses to whom the arrears of stipend had not been paid. He requested that MS Lady Willington Hospital be directed for making payment of arrears of stipend to the remaining nurses as well.
The concerned agency has now informed Mohtasib Secretariat that, besides payment of the arrears of stipend to the complainant's daughters, Director Finance, KEMC and allied hospitals has also made payment in respect of arrears of stipend to 188 ex-midwives and nursing students of the hospital. Therefore, the grievance now stands redressed, during the hearing of matter at Mohtasib Secretariat.
