When, a few years back, the French government had prevented the school going Muslim girls from wearing head-scarf, there were lot of protests by the Muslim living in French and other Muslim countries against the decision.
The protestors' plea was that the prohibition on dress in any particular manner was a matter of individual's personal freedom and that the head-scarf was also a part of Muslim culture. The French government did not pat heed t the arguments and continued with the enforcement of the decision.
The affected persons in French formed a class of second rate citizens who had migrated there from several Muslim countries and there was no option for them but to obey.
But the question is: how would one feel if he is precluded in his native country from putting up dress of his choice embedded in his/country's culture over the past many centuries? Recently, the newly appointed governor of the State Bank of Pakistan as passed orders that the male officials of the Bank should not dress themselves is shalwar/Kameez. What is the real task before the sepoys of the enlightened moderation? Do they want to fully westernize the country eliminating the domestic culture?
But all this is merely a window-dressing. The enlightened moderation has, however, totally failed to address the real issues of the public. The Sindh High Court had a few months back passed a judgement that no jirgas shall be convened to adjudicate the cases of karo-kari etc. But this continues and no sepia of the enlightened moderation has so far moved to implement the court's judgement.
