The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Telenor Cellular Company Tore Johnsen has said that the company was going to invest Rs 60 billion in Pakistan during next five years. Last year the company has invested an amount of Rs 18 billion, CEO told the senior minister NWFP.
Talking to Senior Minister NWFP, Siraj-ul-Haq at Frontier's House Islamabad, Johnsen said that the company has provided over 10,000 jobs to the local people. The company is planning to further expand its service in the country.
The CEO Telenor expressed regrets on the incident of publication of sacrilege sketches in certain Western newspapers and submitted a written statement in this regard. He told the minister that his company and country respected the Prophet (SAW) with core of heart and that was why the Norwegian government first reacted on this tragic incident and sought apology from entire Muslim Ummah while next day editor of the concerned magazine also apologised in writing.
He told that his company launched mobile service in Pakistan especially in NWFP with spirit of serving the people sincerely. The company donated Rs 65 million for assistance of the earthquake victims as well as played effective role in promotion of communication links in all the affected areas including Balakot by starting its mobile service over there.
In response to the gesture of the CEO Telenor the Senior Minister Siraj-ul-Haq lauded the role of Telenor in providing better mobile service to the people of NWFP and assured that protection of its properties and investment would be ensured as he said the people over here were also quite responsible. He said that he would soon visit affected offices of the company and would resolve grievances of the employees on the spot. He said that he himself inaugurated service of the company at Peshawar and hence provincial government wanted its progress by leaps and bounds. However, he advised the company to launch a campaign for enhancing respect of the Holy Prophet (SAW), all other prophets and holy places as well as promotion of religious values in the society.
The senior minister said that the MMA government in the province considered respect and glory of Holy Prophet (PBUH) more dearly than its lives and properties and hence it would never hesitate of sacrificing 1,000 governments and even friendly relations with foreign responsible countries.
He said that no civilised society could even think about blasphemy in respect of any prophet. Reaction of Muslims on recent incident was quite natural. MMA has also joined the nation and entire Ummah in peaceful protest rallies against blasphemy. However, regretting loss of properties of Telenor Company in protest strikes on February 15, he said that in fact it was not held on the call of MMA or governmental.
