Gunmen stormed through a small town near Baghdad, killing at least 19 people, in what police said on Friday was a sectarian attack by Sunni on Shia of the kind that has pushed Iraq towards civil war.
One local politician in the town involved, Nahrawan, put the toll as high as 25, including a woman and three children, one a girl aged six. Interior Ministry officials said 19 bodies were found after the Nahrawan attack, including nine at the local power station, which was wrecked. One suspect had been arrested.
