Police investigating Britain's biggest-ever cash heist said Friday they had discovered several million pounds following a raid in a south-east London.
Police have been working flat out to catch the gun-toting gang behind the spectacular 53.1 million pound (78 million euro, 92 million dollar) raid on a cash depot in Tonbridge, Kent, England's south-east tip, on February 22.
Kent Police said a 43-year-old man was arrested Thursday at an industrial premises in Welling, south-east London, on suspicion of handling stolen goods after the operation which found the bagged-up stashes of notes, now being examined by forensic experts.
They also said that some money had been found at the sprawling farm estate in Staplehurst, Kent, belonging to car dealer John Fowler, 60, charged with kidnapping the depot boss, his wife and schoolboy son.
Kent Police said: "Cash thought to amount to several million pounds has been recovered following a police raid in south-east London.
"A number of bags containing cash are now being examined for forensic evidence. Until this examination is complete, the full amount will not be known.
"It has been confirmed that money has been found following searches at Elderden Farm, Staplehurst, but this amount is not significant."
The hold-up dwarfed previous notorious raids, like the 1963 Great Train Robbery by Ronnie Biggs and cohorts, and more than doubled the former British heist record of 26.5 million pounds, stolen from a Belfast bank in 2004.
At Maidstone Magistrates Court in Kent, the fourth person to appear in court in connection with the robbery went in the dock.
Jetmir Bucpapa, 24 and unemployed, was accused of conspiracy to commit robbery and remanded in custody to appear again on March 13.
The Tonbridge man, charged Thursday night, spoke only to confirm his name, age and address and to say he understood the charge against him.
Wearing a grey sweatshirt and a blue fleece, Bucpapa gave a thumbs-up to female supporters in the public gallery.
