US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Richard Boucher will travel to Karachi in the coming days to express condolences and sorrow on behalf of Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice at the tragedy and the loss of Mr Foy, and the shock that the US Consulate has suffered as a result of this terrorist act.
Secretary Rice has asked Boucher to undertake the travel for expressing her personal condolences, deputy spokesman of the State Department on Friday said.
In a statement read out in the regular press briefing, Adam Ereli said "so, Richard will be going down there soon and the Secretary will be reaching out to the family members to personally express her condolences as well."
"This is a detour from the current itinerary," he said, adding Boucher would see the Consulate staff.
Besides, he would be meeting with Pakistani officials- "but the purpose is to reach out to the Consulate staff and our brave men and women who are there serving their country and express the praise and admiration and thanks of the Secretary, of the Department, for their service."
