The Frontier province has completed hundred percent target of watercourses improvement fixed for the current financial year while additional target of 600 watercourses will be completed by the end of June this year. This was told to a high level meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi here on Saturday.
Secretary agriculture, accountant general, NWFP, special secretary finance and all district co-ordination officers attended the meeting.
The chief secretary appreciated the performance of water management department and urged the participants to provide full support to the executing department so that the present momentum of good performance may be maintained which he said, would not only help in creation of job opportunities but also increase agricultural production in the province.
The chief secretary directed the district implementation committees to hold periodical meetings to sort out problems and bottlenecks hindering the timely completion of watercourses. He assured that the officers and officials relating to the project would be given incentives for their good performance.
The chief secretary directed the concerned authorities to ensure timely release of funds for the project so as to ensure its early completion and get more funds from the federal government for the purpose. It may be mentioned here that under the National Programme of Watercourses Improvement, Rs 8 billion are being spent in the province.
The meeting also discussed the situation of bird flu and directed the health and livestock departments to give correct information to the general public on the issue.
He also directed for publication of advertisements in print media to inform and educate the masses on adoption of necessary precautionary measures so as to avoid the outbreak of the disease, which could involve huge losses.
