Lawyers, prominent citizens and members of gas consumer association and office bearers of the citizens organisation have expressed grave concerns over the tremendous increase in the gas bills and stated that the government is forcing the poor peoples to commit suicides instead of fighting against the poverty.
A special meeting was held here in this connection over the complaint of a poor Christian woman, who had received a gas bill of Rs 3,000 from Sui Northern Company against its monthly earning of Rs 1,200. Rana Zulquernain Khan Advocate former president District Bar Association Faisalabad presided over the joint meeting in which other lawyers, prominent personalities of the district, citizens organisations and NGOs representative also took part.
Addressing the meeting Sohail Babar Jandal Advocate President Gas Consumers Association said that despite taking measures to reduce this bill, government was compelling people of the lower class on committing suicide.
Other speakers accused that Sui Northern company administration was busy in hatching conspiracy against poor section of the society by hiding its inability and indicating reduction in the line and losses under the cover of company privatisation.
