Muhammad Noman Saigal , Advisor to Sindh Chief Minister on Environment , Alternate Energy and Information Technology has advised owners of poultry farms and the workers associated with this industry to adopt precautionary measures in the wake of growing risk of bird flu in Pakistan.
These would include the use of masks and gloves. He has also advised the general public to be careful while consuming chicken and eggs as prevention was the only remedy to bird flu virus, says an official statement here.
Addressing an emergency meeting of the officials of Sindh Environment Protection Agency here on March 2, he asked the officials to compile a detailed report/data about those countries where birds flu was reported. The report should enlist the affected cities and number of poultry farms, and the preventive steps taken in this regard.
He also directed the SEPA officials to visit all poultry farms throughout the province and ensure that the owners and the workers are adopting precautionary measures. The Advisor, on this occasion, announced the setting up of Flu Crisis Management Cell comprising officers of SEPA who would apprise the people especially those involved in this industry about precautionary steps according to emerging situation.
These officers would keep close liaison with NGOs and the research institutions within and outside Pakistan to gather maximum information for the benefit of the public.
