Anti Terrorism Court in Karachi on Monday sentenced two activists of banned Jundullah to death having found them guilty of killing two Rangers personnel in an attack at Ranger's mobile on March 19 in 2004.
Ata-ur-Rehman and Shahzad Ahmed Bajwa were prosecuted of attacking on Ranger's mobile van in Ferozabad area Karachi that left two ranger personnel killed while five others injured.
"It is crystal clear that accused have committed the instant callous offence of brutal murder of two innocent and causing bullet injuries to five persons, during broad-day light at public place, not with the purpose other than terrorism in order to create sense of fear and insecurity in the minds of law enforcement agencies," ATC headed by Judge Feroz Mehmood Bhatti observed in the judgement.
The prosecution has been able to successfully bring home the charges against the accused beyond any reasonable doubt, he said while convicting the accused.
The court also sentenced Shahzad Ahmed Bajwa to life in prison for throwing two hand grenades at Ranger's vehicle causing explosion and ordered to forfeit his moveable and immovable properties to the government.
Both accused were sentenced to aggregate 35 years in prison for intimidating Rangers' personnel in order to refrain from discharging their lawful duties, injuring them and damaging the public and private properties an offence punishable under anti-terrorism act.
They were also directed to pay Rs 100,000 as compensation to family members of victims and Rs 20,000 each to the injured. The accused denied the prosecution charges. Fasih alias Hammad and Shahab were declared absconders in the case.
