A meeting between officials of Punjab Agriculture department and Wapda was held here on Monday to review the pace of supply of electric meters to farmers on subsidised rates.
Fayyaz Bashir, Secretary Agriculture Punjab chaired the meeting, which was attended by Captain Atta Muhammad (Retd), additional secretary agriculture (Task Force), Khalid Javed, General Manager, Wapda, Dr Anjum Ali, director, Adaptive Research, Muhammad Rafiq Akhtar, Director, Agriculture Information, Punjab and representatives of irrigation department.
Wapda General Manager Khalid Javed told the meeting that in phase-I, a target of 30,000 meters supply had been set and upto January this year, 27,441 applications were received and 23,321 meters installed.
Director adaptive research presented a report in the meeting that 87 percent farmers were in favour of these meters while only 13 percent were against the meters. The Wapda GM also informed the meeting that a laboratory had been established in Engineering University Lahore where these meters could be checked for rectification of complaints.
Speaking on the occasion, secretary agriculture Punjab said that such schemes were introduced for the first time in Pakistan for the benefit of farming community.
