The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday adjourned to March 8, the proceedings in a petition against detention of Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Amir Qazi Hussain Ahmed, when the law officer was still submitting his papers.
The law officer contended before the court that detention orders passed the home secretary were in accordance with the law, as JI Amir Qazi was involved in attempts to provoke the people against the government, apart from creating law and order situation in the city.
He said that statements issued by Qazi Hussain in a press were provocative and people held violent protest in the city on February 14.
He said that people damaged the public and private properties, looted the shops, apart from putting the banks on fire. He said the government is responsible to provide protection of life and property to its citizens, hence no one could be allowed to create disturbance. He was still submitting his submissions when the court rose for the day.
BAIL REJECTED: An anti-terrorist court has rejected the bail of Chairman Jamiat-e-Ullama Pakistan (Nifaz-e-Shariat Group) Engr Muhammad Jamil.
The applicant contended that his arrest was illegal, unconstitutional and without lawful authority. He said that on February 14, he participated in a protest rally held to protest the blasphemous caricatures. He said that neither he provoked the people against the government nor staged a violent protest.
The court after hearing petitioner's rejected his bail plea.
SERVICES PLACED: The Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court has placed the services of Additional District and Sessions Judge Bahawalpur, Muhammad Raziq Nawaz, at the disposal of Government of Punjab for his posting as Special Judge, Anti Terrorism Court, Sargodha, for a period of two and a half years or till further orders.
