After voting out a number of Amendment Bills tabled by opposition on private members' day on Tuesday, the opposition legislators in Punjab Assembly, blaming the treasury side for the uncooperative attitude, staged a walkout from the assembly.
Sanaullah and Aftab, both opposition members, said that treasury often blamed the opposition for not contributing to the legislation process, but factual position was that whenever a bill was tabled by the opposition, treasury benches did not let it pass.Earlier in the day, Punjab Law Minister Muhammad Basharat in the debate on kite flying told the house of the options being considered by the provincial government to curb the menace. Muttehida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) and other legislators staged a protest against kite flying.
A resolution by MPA Misbah Kakub, asking federal government to give supervision of the Tomb of Jahangir and Nur Jehan was passed by the House.
An adjournment motion by Aftab and others regarding illegally giving connections by Wasa Staff in Sabzazaar was kept pending by the chair.
On a privilege motion by opposition MPA Ishtiaq Ahmad regarding an incident involving M-2 (Maint) National Highway, Law Minister Muhammad Basharat said that action had been taken against the staff violating the rules.
On an adjournment motion by Riaz on regarding an incident in Thana Burki, the Law Minister asked the MPA to provide further facts so that additional action could be taken. A number of privilege motions were kept pending by the chair.
In question session on Housing, Urban Development & Public Health Engineering, Parliamentary Secretary of the ministry said that sewerage complaints in Salik Abad Colony were effectively being dealt with.
On a question on Quaid-e-Azam Town Scheme he said that 26 kanal and 5 marla land was kept for grave yard in Quaid-e-Azam Town Sector D2. He said that illegal occupation and construction in 11 kanal and 5 marla had occurred in the graveyard during last 15 years, of which he provided details.
The Parliamentary Secretary on a question by MPA Lala Shakeel said that the Improvement Trust, predecessor of Gujranwala Development Authority, had started a housing scheme in Gujranwala in 1960. He said that all commercial and other plots have been allotted in the scheme.
The Parliamentary Secretary, on a question, said that Lahore Development Authority (LDA) had not taken into its possession any land on LDA Avenue-1, for which a stay was granted by a court.
On a question by Arshad Baggo he said that Rs 87.41 million was spent on development and other works in Low Income Housing Scheme-1, Sargodha. He said that this scheme was launched on no-profit-no-loss basis.
On an another query he said that Gujranwala Development Authority has suggested a housing scheme measuring 241 acres in collaboration with private sector in area of Sialkot Bye Pass. The summary for its approval has been sent to relevant authority, he added.
The House was later adjourned to reassemble at 10:00 pm.
