There was token walk out of opposition on the issue of kite-flying in the 24th session of the Punjab Assembly that commenced 10:00 am on Wednesday.
Rana Aftab, Rana Sana Ullah, Arshad Baggo legislators from opposition benches castigated provincial government from not taking adequate steps in saving people from injuries due to kite-flying.
Punjab Law Minister Muhammad Basharat Raja taking serious notice of this criticism said that after announcement of steps by Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi to curb the menace arising out of kite-flying, opposition was playing upon the issue unnecessarily.
During the session, chaired by Shaukat Mazari, Punjab Law Minister Muhammad Basharat Raja laid in the House 'The Societies Registration (Amendment) Ordinance 2006. Two other ordinances 'The Punjab Local Government (Amendment) Ordinance, 2006 and 'University of Central Punjab (Amendment) Bill, 2005 that were on agenda to be laid in the House could not be presented due to lack of quorum. Out of 371 strength of provincial assembly, 93 members' presence constitute the quorum?
Punjab Revenue and Colonies Minister Manzar Ali Ranjha speaking in question period in the House, apprised the House that there was 13,742 kanal 4 Marla government land present in Mauza Harbanspura. He presented facts on illegal transaction in these areas before the House.
The minister briefing the assembly on numerical strength of 'Nambardars' in Bhawalpur averred that their total number was 944. He lao briefed that 325 Nambardars according to government policy under 'Nambardari Scheme' got allotment of land in the area.
On a question from MPA Malik Muhammad Iqbal Chunnar, the minister said there existed 228 Patwar Circles in district Bhawalpur.
On a query by MPA Syed Ehsan Ullah Waqas, the revenue minister dilated that collector/district officer (Revenue) was the legal authority to issue license of selling Revenue Stamp. He said this authority had been entrusted under Stamp Act, 1899 to him.
Ranjha speaking on a query by MPA Ehsan Ullah Waqas apprised the House that there was no allotment of Land that took place in Khushab area during last three years.
The minister on a question by MPA Engr Javed Akbar said there was 12,228 acres of land possessed by the Revenue Department in 2001. He said, at present, 4,199 acres had been proposed under the Chief Minister Scheme to be given to the needy in the province. The House for the lack of quorum was later adjourned for Thursday at 10:00 am by the chair.
