Sindh Minister for Labour, Transport, Industries said at a seminar on Wednesday that Pakistan wanted to attract more investment to enhance job opportunities. To achieve the purpose, he said, the country was providing several facilities for foreign investment.
The minister said, "It's a pleasant coincidence that today is also the International Women's Day, since 1945 when the charter of United Nation was signed in San Francisco which was the first international agreement to proclaim gender equality, women have marched towards achieving this goal in every sphere of life."
As you all know, Adil Siddiqui said, women economic empowerment is imperative to achieve success, adding developing countries accepting this fact provide congenial atmosphere for women's participation in economic activities.
He said in Pakistan also, women are taking active part in socio-economic development, especially during the present government tenure.
Under the liberal leadership of President Musharraf and enlightened Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz Sindh province has taken multidimensional initiatives, he added.
Ministry of Labour and Industries has always kept the agenda for development of women entrepreneurship on top priority, the minister said and added that he has not only been emphasising on women's active participation in economic development at every stage but has taken successful steps to prove his sincerity in this direction.
Adil Siddiqui listed some decisions and projects in this regard.
1) Access of women had been made possible to national & international exhibition by efforts of industries ministry.
2) Vocational training centres for women have been established to provide skilled workers.
3) Small Industries Co-operation has been given special attention to provide opportunities to women working in cottage industries on very level. They are being organised and make aware of the modern demand, on the production side as well as marketing facilities.
4) Women workers under Social Security Scheme are also being apprised of their rights and facilities through informative seminars & literature.
The minister assured every co-operation to visiting Malaysian women delegation. He said that Malaysia or any country could do variety of businesses and invest without any doubt in shipping, oil and gas fields, tourism and machinery.
President of Association of Bumiputra Women Entrepreneur Network of Malaysia Faridah Omar Shah in her speech expressed satisfaction over Pakistan government's economic policies and delivered her views on investment expansion and joint ventures.
She said that she was happy to be here in Pakistan and know the mind of the trade and business community.
Faridah and other women entrepreneurs discussed the main hurdles in expanding the investment in Pakistan and impressed upon the minister that closer relation and trade ties were in the best interest of the two countries stressing that more efforts are needed in this regard.
She appreciated the measures taken by Pakistan government, saying that it was trying its level best to promote women participation in all walks of life.
