The ambassador of Argentine Republic to Pakistan Rodolfo J Saravia has said that strenuous efforts are being made for further increasing the trade, commerce connections and interaction with Pakistan.
Addressing the members of Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) here on Wednesday he revealed that trade actives between Argentine and Pakistan were picking up after the visit of President Pervez Musharraf, which showed the trade tendency increasing between the two countries.
The Argentine ambassador informed the house that a high-level trade mission of Argentine would soon visit Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad for ascertaining the possibilities to enhancing trade activities between the two countries.
At present he said that apart from other cities of Pakistan, Sialkot had more trade relations and links with Argentine and we were making adequate efforts for expanding the sphere of trade activities with other cities of Pakistan.
The Argentine ambassador further disclosed that Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Argentine and Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) would be signed in near future for exchange of information pertaining trade and commerce.
Rodolfo stressed upon the business community of Sialkot to visit Argentine for assessing the possibilities for expansion of trade between the two countries.
The Argentine ambassador said that it was his first visit to the export-oriented city and really impressed by seeing the beautiful and buildings of Sports Goods and Surgical Instruments in and around Sialkot. On this occasion he lauded the efforts of local business community for establishing Sialkot International Airport on self-help basis and it would plan an instrumental role in bringing boom in trade activities. The Argentine ambassador said that on the recommendation of SCCI the Argentine embassy would issue visa to genuine businessmen.
In his address of welcome President Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry Dr Nouman Idris Butt said there are lot of possibilities for enhancing bilateral trade between the two countries, which could be availed through better co-operation in industry and trade.
The major exports from Pakistan to Argentine are surgical, sports goods, textile yarn and fabric while the main item of import from Argentine are soybean oil crude, iron, steel and sunflower seed oil and balance of trade between the two countries is in favour of Argentine Dr Nouman said.
The President SCCI urged upon the business community of Argentine that they should come forward and establish joint venture and business collaboration with Sialkot based companies in the field of sports goods, surgical instruments and leather goods etc.
Dr Nouman Butt said that exchange of trade delegations from both sides, holding of joint exhibitions in both the countries including single country exhibition as well as regular exchange of information about foreign trade regime and other publications through trade bodies other relevant organisations would help in promoting and enhancing trade relations between Pakistan Argentine.
