Anti Vehicle-Lifting Staff (AVLS) has smashed an inter-provincial gang of carjackers and arrested its 15 members and recovered 110 vehicles worth Rs 70 million from their possession.
Capital City Police Officer Khawaja Khalid Farooq said this while addressing a press conference at the District Police Lines here on Wednesday. He said he had given special directions to the staff to take effective measures for curbing vehicle-snatching incidents in the city.
The accused gang used to steal vehicles with the help of master keys and later changed the numberplates and sold them in NWFP at throwaway prices, he added.
He said the car-jackers had committed the crimes in different parts of Lahore, Karachi, Faisalabad, Islamabad, Sahiwal and Multan. To a query, he said the incompetent police officials would be transferred from there.
