Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman Major General Shahzada Alam Malik (Retd) on Wednesday has appealed to the people not to make target the telecom products, services and the installations of any foreign operator as they had no connection with the act of blasphemy.
In a statement issued here, the PTA Chairman said it took long through concerted and enormous efforts to bring reputed foreign companies into Pakistani Telecom Sector so that the consumers get better mobile and other telecom services at competitive rates commensurate with the international standards.
He said two new cellular mobile operators had won the licenses for dollars 291 million each for their operations.
Subsequently, these and other operators had made investments worth millions of dollars, which generated ample employment opportunities for local Pakistanis. Telenor alone has brought in foreign direct investment (FDI) of dollars 300 million in and it 2005 and it was planning to invest around dollars one billion during next five years, he added.
Shahzada Alam emphasised that damaging the networks and infrastructure of any foreign mobile company was not in the favour of anyone since the franchises were owned and operated by local Pakistanis.
He said, "Every Muslim has profound feelings for the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) and condemns such blasphemous acts."
