A two-member bench of the Supreme Court on Wednesday issued notice to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Prosecutor-General in a petition filed by Taj Muhammad Khanzada, a former provincial minister of NWFP.
Regarding confiscation of his property in reference against his nephew, Javed Alam Khanzada. The bench comprising Justice Hamid Ali Mirza and Justice Karamat Nazir Bhindari heard the arguments of the counsel of Taj Muhammad and issued notice to NAB Prosecutor General, granting leave to appeal. The next hearing of the case will be held in April, the bench said.
Dr Babar Awan, Advocate, appeared as counsel for the petitioner. According to the petition/appeal, National Accountability Bureau confiscated Rs 35 million of petitioner Taj Muhammad from a joint account with his nephew Javed Alam, a former Secretary of NWFP government, who committed suicide last year.
The National Accountability Bureau had arrested Javed Alam in a corruption reference and froze all bank accounts of the accused, including the above-mentioned joint account. During the trial in the reference, an officer of the National Accountability Bureau confiscated Rs 35 million from the said joint account without prior orders/decree of the trial court.
