Sialkot Tehsil Municipal Administration has decided to introduce a mechanised system costing Rs 18 million aimed at gradually replacing the manual system.
Besides, special arrangements were being made for launching double shift for the cleanliness in Sialkot, revealed Tehsil Nazim Imtiazuddin Dar.
Addressing members of Pakistan Gloves Manufacturers and Exporters Association (Pgmea) here on Thursday, he added that the step was being taken for removing rubbish and starting desilting of drains in the city.
It has also been decided to provide 'waste bags' to people on inexpensive prices for storage of domestic waste and rubbish, which would be picked up by concerned staff, he disclosed.
Imtiazuddin Dar informed the meeting that four housing colonies consisting of five and seven marla plots would be developed in adjoining areas of Sialkot aimed at reducing population load, adding that all basic facilities would be ensured to the dwellers of these colonies.
He pointed out that Sialkot TMA would develop these proposed colonies on 'no profit no loss basis' and initial work on the project would shortly be undertaken.
Certain options were under consideration for improving the city water supply system for ensuring sufficient quantity of hygienic drinking water to the citizen, he said.
The tehsil nazim said that in order to resolve the civic problems several long and short-term development plans had been prepared of which practical work on some projects had already been undertaken.
Dar further told the meeting that the TMA would take appropriate step for widening and beautification of the city and for this purpose all available resources would be mobilised.
Marriage halls, hospitals and hotels functioning in various parts of the city had become main source of rubbish and waste because they mostly throw their daily waste into drains as a result of which the blocked waterway create problems, he said.
About the encroachments, he said that special attention had been focused on making the industrialist city encroachment-free and under the programme "Taxi Stand" had been removed from the city while encroachments from main city bazaars and commercial centers had also been removed by the traders on voluntarily basis.
Imtiazuddin Dar further informed the meeting that adequate steps were being taken for developing four new graveyards, adding that each graveyard would be developed on 25 acres of land.
Besides, special steps were being taken for overcoming the growing traffic jumbling and TMA was looking for sufficient space for providing the facility of parking to the citizens, he added.
In his address of welcome, Pgmea Chairman Dr Shumail Saeed Barlas highlighted various problems being confronted by the business community of Sialkot.
Due to the high rate of commercialisation fee in Sialkot the business community was reluctant to construct commercial buildings in the city, he said. He underscored the need of minimising the commercialisation fee enabling the business community and other interested persons to build the big commercial buildings in the city.
