Two suspected Taleban rebels and a woman were killed in an hours-long clash with security forces in eastern Afghanistan overnight, police said Thursday.
Another suspected Taleban member, a child and two policemen were wounded in the fierce exchange of fire in a village in the eastern province of Nangarhar near the border with Pakistan late Wednesday, police said.
A purported Taleban spokesman, Mohammad Hanif, confirmed the incident in a telephone call from an undisclosed location.
