A team of Human Appeal International (HAI) will hand over 1000 permanent shelter homes to quake-hit people in seven villages of Muzaffarabad today (Saturday).
Consultant Asian Development Bank Dr G. M Arif, Trustee along with the HAI vice-chairman Dr Naeem Qureshi will visit the sites and hand over keys.
Giving details, the country representative of the organisation said it had so far distributed 12,500 corrugated iron sheets, 13,520 hardboard sheets, 104,000 feet plain sheets, 522 commodes, 522 stoves and 10 woodcutting machines in the quake-affected villages.
"Rehabilitation of the affected children is a challenging task and only educational rehabilitation could help in bringing them out of trauma. Though the HAI has tried its best to restore the damaged schools in some villages yet it is an uphill task," Nisar said.
MAJOR FOCUS AREAS: He said that the major focus areas were provision of educational and healthcare facilities, orphan care, social development and creating income generation opportunities.
"This is a part of HAI efforts to ensure that quake affectees are not only provided with immediate shelter but also equipped with the future rehabilitation needs. Hence, a systematic relationship has been developed not only with the partner civil society organisations but also with the local communities to reach out to the most affected," he said.
He said that provision of healthcare, education and clean drinking water in these villages was the tasks the HAI would be focussing on its future rehabilitation plans apart from constructing permanent homes. "The HAI is assisting the suffering communities of remote and mountainous areas to provide them permanent shelters so that they can live their normal life once again," he said.
The HAI is an UK based non-governmental organisation engaged in Pakistan since 2002 in education sector. The NGO has been actively working in the quake-hit areas ever since the disaster struck Pakistan. It has been actively working on providing permanent shelter to the most affected people in seven villages of Muzaffarabad district.
