Comsats is promoting research-based collaboration among its centres of excellence in the third world countries. This was stated by former Jordanian Prime Minister and Philadelphia University President Dr Adnan Badran, while inaugurating the ninth meeting of the Comsats Co-ordinating Council held at the Royal Scientific Society, Amman, Jordan, on Friday.
According to message received here, the meeting was attended by heads and representatives of Comsats Network of centres of excellence, diplomats, scholars and scientists from around the globe.
He stressed upon the developing countries to devote more time, commitment and financial resources to research and development.
He said the prevailing education system in our countries did not encourage minds to think and develop, adding it only supported memory-based achievements, which might not lead us anywhere.
It was thus high time for the developing world to rely on research and development (R&D) more and focus on indigenous research on science and technology for their own good, he added.
He hoped that such co-operation, as Comsats was doing, would go a long way towards building capacity in the developing world to undertake indigenous technology-based projects and programmes for the overall socio-economic development.
Moreover, he expressed appreciation and showed trust in the leadership of Comsats Executive Director Dr Hameed Ahmed Khan, and Co-ordinating Council Chairman and Third World Network of Scientific Organisations Secretary General Professor Dr MHA Hassan.
Dr Khan, in his remarks, pledged Comsats' commitment for development. Professor Dr MHA Hassan also spoke on the occasion and stressed the need for prioritising scientific areas of immediate attention in the light of needs and demands for socio-economic sustainable development.
