People associated with the country's film industry, including actors, directors and producers, have hailed the government's decision to impose ban on kite-flying for an indefinite period, and urged to make it a permanent feature.
Chairman Pakistan Film Producers Association Jamshed Zafar told APP that they did not want celebration of such festivals at the cost of human lives, and appreciated the Chief Minister's announcement in this connection.
"We laud the decision, as nothing is more important than human life," he said.
He admitted that Lollywood celebrities and artistes used to celebrate Basant with fanfare and gusto each year, "But the rising incidence of deaths by the metal wires and coated strings used in kite-flying has cast a damper on the sport, and we would celebrate it without it," he added.
Observing that there would be many other festivals and occasions to celebrate, he assured that the industry would stand by the government decision regarding Basant.
