Sindh Minister for Transport, Industry and Trade, Muhammad Adil Siddiqui on Friday urged the investors from the country and abroad to invest in transport and engineering sectors in view of large number of opportunities existing there.
In his message on the occasion of holding of a conference of Auto Transport and Engineering "ICIP-2006" at Karachi Expo Centre, the minister said investing in transport and engineering sectors was critical for industrial development of the country.
Adil Siddiqui said due to the business-friendly policies of the government and provision of the facility of 100 percent equity, the province had received 4.43 million dollars investment during the past three years while foreign direct investment of three billion dollars was expected this year.
He said holding of international exhibitions and conferences was playing a significant role in opening up ways for investment in the country particularly in Sindh.
The minister pointed out that 90 percent transport of the country was dependent on roads. "In the year 2006 more than five million registered vehicles are plying on the country's roads measuring 0.8 million kilometres," he informed.
He said 457 motorways had so far been constructed in Pakistan while more highways would be built in different parts of the country with Rs 527 billion in the next eight years.
This conference being held on Auto, Transport and Engineering would play a significant role in bringing more investment to the country, Adil Siddiqui observed.
The conference would also help promote the ports, shipping, cargo transportation and related industries of metal production. With improvement in the facilities of the means of communication, the country especially Sindh would witness progress in industrial development.
The minister congratulated the organisers of the conference on holding of a successful event.
