Despite a complete ban on kite-flying in the provincial capital, there were a number of areas in Lahore particularly inner city, Gawalmandi, Johar Town, Defence where kite-flying was witnessed during Basant Day and night.
However, the police that patrolled the city on the occasion arrested 700 people for flouting the ban. Police that generally kept a vigilant check on selling of kites and other material in the city forced the shop-keepers to close their establishments, raided a number of hotels where Basant Night programs were arranged.
However, despite strict ban, a number of incidents in which people got injured were also reported in the city. In one such incident, two persons riding a bike were reported hurt from dangerous thread in the area of Ichhra.
Meanwhile, SSP (Operations) Amir Zulifqar, who visited various areas to check kite flying, suspended police officers of Bhatti Gate and Mall Road for not properly implementing ban on kite-flying in these areas.
