District Officer (Monitoring), Mukhtar Ahmad has said that over half-a-million books would be distributed free-of-cost among the students of class one to ten in two phases in Vehari district.
The Punjab government was utilising all resources to promote education under Chief Minister's 'Educated Punjab' programme and it has been decided that free-of-cost syllabus books would be made available to students upto matric level this academic year.
As many as 393,500 books would be provided to students in the first phase and another 256,400 in the second phase, said the official. Warehouses would be set up at the tehsil level for storage of books and distributions centers at different schools. Education department would distribute the books under monitoring by the monitoring officer.
