First Lady of Pakistan Sehba Musharraf on Monday said that government had embarked upon the challenging job to rehabilitate earthquake victims on war-footings besides pulling them out of psychological trauma caused to the enormous disaster.
"Women have played a significant role in assisting government to help rehabilitate earthquake victims in the Himalayan region that killed hundreds thousands of people in October last year", Ms Sehba Musharraf said while addressing a one-day national conference on "Socio-economic and Psychological impact on Earthquake Affectees".
The conference was largely participated by the representatives of non-governmental organisations from various parts of the country.
Earlier, presenting address of welcome Vice Chancellor Lahore College for Women University Bushra Mateen welcomed the First Lady to share findings of scholars from all over the country who conducted their studies independently.
Bushra appreciated that government agencies and NGOs who left no stone unturned to undertake the relief and rehabilitation work to the best of their resources and capabilities.
She said natural calamities can't be controlled but loss of human life can definitely be reduced and suggested that disaster management system should be developed at the national-level and trickle down to grass roots-level.
