All Pakistan Vigilance Petroleum Dealers Foundation has demanded reduction in taxes on petroleum products in order to provide relief to the people already burdened with price hike in the country.
A meeting of the foundation chaired by Syed Zia Abbas in Karachi urged the President and Prime Minister to evolve a comprehensive planning on priority basis for reducing prices of consumer items and goods.
To begin with, the government should substantially reduce large number of taxes imposed on petroleum products for the benefit of the masses.
It expressed concern over reports about reduction in commission of petroleum dealers, although the government had agreed to raise it from four to five percent.
Such a move, the foundation said was not based on justice and would further cripple business of petroleum dealers and lead to their closure as it would be difficult for them to operate with less commission. The commission of petrol pumps dealers should be increased to five percent as agreed earlier.
By a resolution, it demanded from the government to close down illegal business of smuggled petroleum products in the country, which was not only affecting registered petroleum dealers but also depriving national exchequer of revenue.
