Jamaat-e-Islami Naib Ameer Professor Ghafoor Ahmad has stressed the need for an interim government and demanded fresh election in the country, but he refused to take part in the new elections in presence of President Pervez Musharraf.
He expressed these views while addressing a press conference here on Tuesday. He said that the chief election commissioners should be appointed on permanent basis.
He averred that the government's foreign policy was a complete failure, which had isolated the country from the international community.
On the Balochistan issue, he said that General Musharraf ordered military operations in Balochistan and tribal areas, including Waziristan, to please US President George Bush.
He was of the view that the parliament had lost its importance because issues relating to national importance are not being discussed at the highest forum. He maintained that the Kashmir solution would not be acceptable in the absence of the UN Resolutions.
Criticising the double standards of the US, the Naib Ameer said that on one hand by extending nuclear co-operation to India, it had strengthened its nuclear capability and in contrast the US was threatening Iran for possessing nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
According to him, the US wanted Pakistan to role back its nuclear programme, in fact it wishes to control the Pakistani nuclear weapons on the pretext that it could end up in the hands of the extremists in the country.
The recent Bush's visit to South Asia was aimed at providing supremacy to India and interestingly his unscheduled visit to Afghanistan encouraged Hamid Karazi to give provocative statements against Pakistan.
Criticising the Senate elections, he said that horse trading on a large scale was observed and announced to take action against their members who changed their loyalties.
