Federal Minister for Religious Affairs, Ijaz-ul-Haq called on Secretary General of Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC), Professor Dr Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu and discussed with him matters relating to the publication of blasphemous sketches.
He briefed the Secretary General on the outcome of the visit of the Pakistani delegation to the European Union (EU), Brussels.
The minister conveyed sentiments and reaction of the Muslim world to the Speaker of the European Parliament, Foreign Minister, Commissioner External Affairs and others during the meetings.
Ijaz-ul-Haq said that the OIC should open an office in Brussels to project the true spirit of Islam in the West. The Secretary General remarked that OIC is pursuing the issue from day one and had meeting with Solana and others.
Ihsanoglo stressed that the freedom of expression is not only the issue but sentiments of one-fifth part of the humanity should be given due regard. He said the Muslims should join hands to force the European Union (EU) to do some thing for the solution of the issue and avoid its recurrence.
Ihsanoglo said he would welcome the Ministerial meeting if a concrete proposal is received from any member country. However, he said let us wait for the outcome of the Executive Bodies's meeting to be held on March 15. The Secretary General stressed the need for taking up the issue by the Muslims countries with concrete steps.
