The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) will meet here on Tuesday (March 21), with Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Dr Akram Sheikh in the chair, to consider 24 development projects worth Rs 62.838 billion.
Official sources in the Planning Commission told Business Recorder on Wednesday that the CDWP would likely to approve 14 projects worth Rs 4.00 billion while the remaining 10 projects of Rs 58.838 billion would be taken up with the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (Ecnec) for approval.
In water sector, CDWP will take up three projects of Rs 31.72 billion including construction of Aujo Escape at RD 135 lower canal in Sindh costing Rs 72 million, Additional works and outstanding liabilities of Chashma Right Bank Canal Rs 865 million, and Extension of Right Bank Outfall Drainage (RBOD) from Sehwan to Sea at Gharo Rs 30.78 billion.
It would also consider four projects worth Rs 1.29 billion in energy sector including, electrification of villages through renewable energy technologies in coastal areas of Sindh province at the cost of Rs 312 million, electrification of villages at a border between Balochistan and Afghanistan Rs 33.35 million, electrification of villages at Balochistan-Iran border and electrification of villages in coastal areas of Balochistan.
Besides, in education sector it would take up two projects of Rs 20.53 billion including establishment and operation of 82,000 basic education community school (2006-2011) at the cost of Rs 19.857 billion and capacity building of teachers training institutions of ministry of education and training of elementary schools teachers in Islamabad, Fata, Fana and AJK.
Sources said that the working party would take up four projects of Rs 2.72 billion relating to higher education. These include acquisition of land for establishment of engineering university at Islamabad amounting Rs 1.629 billion.
In agriculture and food sector, the CDWP will take up two projects of Rs 2.27 billion that include livestock production and development, meat production worth Rs 283.363 million and milk collection, processing and dairy production-development programme costing Rs 1.984 billion.
Besides, it would also approve the feasibility report on construction of Gwadar port civic centre costing Rs 159.31 million.
The CDWP would also take up four projects worth Rs 2.445 billion in health sector that include replacement and purchase of equipment for NICVD Karachi (Rs 658.625 million), establishment of burn units (Rs 398 million), women health project NWFP (Rs 762 million) and establishment of 200 bedded hospital at D.I. Khan with total cost of Rs 626.249 million.
Apart from above, in commerce and industries sector, CDWP would take up two projects of Rs 52.962 million for approval.
In devolution and area development sector, the meeting will approve ADB-assisted district road resource management programme at the cost of Rs 146 million.
