Former foreign secretary Dr Tanveer Ahmed Khan has said it did not suit the Afghan leadership to blame Pakistan for untoward law and order situation in that country.
Speaking in a PTV programme, he said Pakistan was co-operating beyond its capacity to bring peace and normalcy in Afghanistan but unfortunately the other side was not duly acknowledging those efforts. He said without Pakistan's co-operation it would not have been possible to hold Presidential and parliamentary election in Afghanistan.
Despite domestic criticism, Pakistan has deployed 70,000 - 80,000 troops in the tribal areas bordering Afghanistan, he said. He said Pakistan government was making all out efforts to ensure that the anti-government forces in Afghanistan did not use its soil.
After the recent visit of Afghan President to Pakistan it was expected the chain of anti-Pakistan statements by the Afghan leaders would come to an end, he said adding but it was not happening.
He urged the Afghan authorities to focus on establishing the writ of government within Afghanistan rather than blaming Pakistan, which was working sincerely for the peace and prosperity of the Afghan people.
