Minister for Social Welfare and Special Education, Zobaida Jalal on Wednesday said the government is committed to the welfare and rehabilitation of special persons aimed at bringing social revolution in the country.
She said speaking at "Pakistan Taraqee Bazar" organised by World Bank in collaboration with various organisations here to promote the inclusion agenda of and for persons with disabilities. Senior officials of World Bank and ministry of social welfare and special education were also present.
The minister said special people are important segment of our society and their active participation is necessary for the country's development. She said, the ministry has developed a "National Policy for Persons with Disabilities - 2002". However, she said, for implementation of this policy, draft for national plan of action has been prepared. "We are keen to bring disabled into the national mainstream", Zobaida added.
The minister said, the directorate general of special education, has established 55 special education centres and 13 projects for care, welfare, education, training and rehabilitation of children with disability.
For recreation and sports facilities, she said, a park for the special persons has been developed in the federal capital.
Zobaida Jalal said, the ministry was also making possible efforts for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the quake victims.
She lauded the efforts of organisers for holding such activity and said it is need of the time to create awareness among all concerned regarding issues and problems of the disabled.
