Pakistan and China will cooperate in strengthening Unesco's role in the region to upgrade educational facilities and improve overall living conditions of the people.
An understanding to this effect was arrived at a meeting held here between Chairman, Unesco's Executive Board, Zhang Xinsheng and a senior leader of Pakistan Muslim League, MNA Dr Attiya Inayatullah, who is currently visiting China.
Attiya, who is a member of the Unesco's executive board, assured her country's support to achieve future targets in the fields of education, science and technology.
Sources told APP here on Thursday that the two sides agreed to step up their interaction for further development and reform of Unesco.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged ideas on the working of the executive board to make the world body more effective meeting future challenges.
According to the sources, Zhang who is also Vice-Minister, Chinese Ministry of Education stressed that as the world is becoming a global village, great challenges and opportunities await them and the time has come to intensify their commitment for an even stronger Unesco.
As a member of the Unesco, China has conducted many exchanges, such as in vocational education, with the organisation over the past few years.
Educational programmes targeting women and girls have also been promoted in Chinese major cities.
Dr Attiya during her stay in Beijing also held meeting with the representatives of All-China Women Federation and discussed proposals to enhance bilateral co-operation in the areas of common interest.
Before returning home on Friday, she was also scheduled to attend annual convocation of Fudan University in Shanghai.
