City District Government Karachi on Saturday decided to set up different committees to draw proposals for new development projects for the fiscal year 2006-07 so that the ongoing project are made connected parts of new schemes.
Sources said that three committees were formed which would review the existing conditions in road networks, traffic management and educational facilities and draw plans for the next financial year.
They said that the ongoing construction of roads and underpasses would have the provision of further expansion without causing inconvenience to commuters, pedestrians, and haulers. Sources said that the CDGK was of the opinion that in collaboration with town committees it would draw road expansion plans in addition to all that are being implemented.
At present encroachments are being removed from different areas and roads are being cleared of all illegal constructions. This has affected offices of companies, shops and private transport stands.
Sources said that some of the fake kutchi abadis set up by land grabbers on private and government lands had also been removed in total disregard to political hue and cry. They said that arrangements were being made to clear plots and parkland belonging to the city district government. Similarly all kutchi abadis that set up indifferent parts of the city and still not given the status of kutchi abadis would be removed. There would be no more kutchi abadi in the city from now onward. They said that the CDGK had given a clear message to all those land grabbers that they should vacate the encroached land or be prepared to face coercive methods.
According to a rough estimate about 200 km of roads under the jurisdiction of CDGK and 18 town committees would be cleared from encroachments.
They said the ongoing campaign against the encroachers is the biggest ever undertaken in Karachi.
Sources said that the ongoing projects of all kinds would cost about Rs 20 billion and complete before the close of the current financial year.
