I would like to draw the attention of all concerned to do something about the menace of playgrounds being converted into buildings. The land mafia, now operating in all major cities and towns, has become so greedy that they are grabbing land left, right and centre to construct buildings, complexes and shopping malls where once children used to play games like cricket, hockey, football and volleyball.
Therefore, it is not surprising that we are not producing sportsmen and women who can compete on the world stage.
Nevertheless, there is hope and companies like the telecom giant Mobilink and banks like ABN Amro have started to support sports activities which I think is commendable. Why can't other companies come up and support sports activities instead of wasting their funds on huge and worthless advertising campaigns, which in itself are usually misleading the people.
