Punjab Employees Social Security Institutions (Pessi) Commissioner Syed Tahir Raza Naqvi has said the Punjab government was taking far-reaching steps to extend the health facilities from 1,400 beds to 3,500 beds in Social Security hospitals along with the most modern treatment facilities to the 0.55 million registered industrial workers with the total cost of Rs 2.5 billion.
Addressing the members of the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI), he assured that the representation would be given to Faisalabad in the Pessi governing body in near future, while complicated matters have been running between industrialists and Pessi for last many years will also be solved through mutual understanding.
Tahir Raza Naqvi said that at present, 0.55 million industrial workers had been registered with the Pessi, while 0.12 million industrial workers related to Faisalabad zone. He admitted that the Faisalabad zone was making the major social security contribution about Rs 25 million every month to Pessi for ensuring maximum medical care for their workers.
He said the provincial government under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi was taking revolutionary steps to create friendly atmosphere in industrial areas with a view to ensuring pleasant and cordial relation between the workers and the management.
He also said the chief minister had approved a comprehensive plan under which a private Social Security Health Management Company has been established to cater to the needs of medical treatment of 66,000 industrial workers in Manga Mandi Road, Sheikhupura and Muzzaffar Garh in first phase. This company would construct three hospitals in these areas consisting of 100-bed each so that the scope of medical treatment for the industrial workers could be further broadened.
Naqvi said that Pessi had made 80 percent contribution (Rs 450 million) to the company so that the smooth functioning of this private mega project could be ensured. In second phase, he said this would start functioning at Faisalabad in very near future.
He said the Punjab government had earmarked Rs 20 million for the computerisation of Pessi so that this institution could be run on the most sophisticated lines in accordance with the present circumstances.
A new system of monitoring and health management is being devised for better health program to ensure availability of medicines, medical equipment, doctors and staff at all health units, dispensaries and hospitals, he added.
Earlier, presenting the address of welcome, FCCI President Mian Muhammad Hanif demanded that small industrial units having 10 workers should be exempted from Social Security contribution and present slabs system should be maintained and divide it for more facilitation.
He also demanded that a 'Burn Unit' should be established in Social Security hospitals, while more dispensaries should be established in industrial areas.
All Pakistan Cotton Powerlooms Association Vice Chairman Mohammad Akram Ghouri, All Pakistan Sizing Industries Association Senior Vice Chairman Rana Talib Hussain, former FCCI president Sheikh Ashfaq Ahmad, Sheikh Mohammad Saleem Sana and many other took part in 'question-answer' session.
